Pine honey is darker in color and more resistant to crystallization than most flower honeys, and it is produced in 90% of the world in our country and 10% in Greece. For the production of pine honey, an insect called the pine cotton beetle or the Basra beetle is needed. The Persian beetle lives only in red pine, black pine and Aleppo pine along the Aegean coastline of Muğla, Aydın, İzmir, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Antalya provinces. This insect secretes a sweet substance by sucking the sap of the pine, and honey bees collect this secretion and produce it as pine honey.
Due to the high mineral density of pine honey, it has a high nutritional feature. It is used against mouth, throat and bronchitis infections with its antibacterial properties.
